ILG Private Wealth is an Independent, Fee-based Registered Investment Advisory firm. Founder and CEO John H. The “suitability standard” allows brokers to resolve conflicts of interest with clients by simple disclosure. The suitability standard also allows brokers to recommend proprietary mutual funds in an attempt to maximize undisclosed fees and company profits. What is an integrated plan? An integrated plan is a comprehensive strategy that considers and plans for all of life’s WHAT-IF questions. With no bias for or against any financial service or product, we consider and analyze the entire universe of products and strategies to develop review and continually adjust a plan that is customized to each of our client’s individual needs. A dis-integrated wealth management strategy that fails to take into account a client’s retirement, philanthropic, extended family support and estate planning needs is a total dis-service to a client. The suggestion that a client focus all of his or her wealth management strategies on the use of various life insurance products is likewise a complete dis-service to a client. It is only through an integrated approach that adequately considers and plans for all of a client’s potential needs that an effective life-long strategy can be designed and implemented.
When it comes to wealth management, ILG Private Wealth employs a unique and proprietary strategy of “managing world-class money managers against one another for the benefit of our clients”. As a wholly independent RIA, ILG has established trusted and close working relationships with some of the country’s most respected money managers. We vet our list of qualified money managers by employing a team of due diligence experts that utilize a disciplined approach of investment research. Beyond using a readily available database, our team of due diligence professionals have knowledge, experience and personal relationships with key individuals throughout the universe of money managers. By considering over 850 available investment managers, we look for managers that offer innovative solutions and respect ILG’s need for transparency and disciplined processes.
Our due diligence team uses a six step review that includes visits to the strategist offices. The due diligence team presents its results and recommendations to an investment committee that essentially performs a background check on each of the investment managers before they become a part of ILG’s menu of trusted managers. But ILG’s vetting process doesn’t stop there. Once added to the list of available investment managers, our due diligence team continues to evaluate the performance and consistent management of our investment managers with monthly, quarterly and annual reviews. On a regular basis, an investment manager is closely monitored when strategies exhibit unexpected or unexplained performance results. Likewise, the change in key personnel or a shift in investment process or philosophy causes an investment manager to be placed on a watch list. Finally, when ongoing performance prompts questions about the effectiveness of an investment philosophy, an investment manager may be removed from ILG’s list of possible managers.
For our qualified clients, we regularly coordinate and participate in conference calls that include our clients, the ILG advisor and the actual portfolio manager being used for a client’s investments. We challenge you to obtain that level of direct of direct and personal communication with a portfolio manager at a typical broker dealer or registered investment advisory firm.
Finally, in order to actually “manage investment managers against one another for the benefit of our clients” ILG utilizes a platform that allows us to negotiate discounts on investment manager’s fees at the entity level instead of simply negotiating investment manager’s fees based on the individual client’s assets under management, ILG’s clients benefit from discounts that take into account the total assets being managed through ILG by an investment manager. When a change in investment managers becomes appropriate for any particular reason, that very same platform allows ILG advisors to move a client’s investments from one manager to another in a quick and efficient manner.
With the increasing complexity of investment strategies and various insurance products, ILG Private Wealth has invested heavily in risk assessment and performance analysis technology. A key component to a successful wealth management plan is the accurate alignment of personal risk tolerance to the actual risk score of an investment portfolio. A unique process employed by ILG advisors is the ILG Investment Stress Test. Through partnerships with cutting-edge technology companies, ILG advisors perform an investment stress test that provides insight in to the possible performance of a particular portfolio under various interest rate and market performance conditions.
Understanding how an investment portfolio has historically performed in a rising interest rate environment versus the portfolio’s performance during certain bear market conditions is valuable in aligning an investment strategy to a client’s true risk tolerance. Evaluating a life insurance policy’s actual performance since issuance and comparing that performance to the original illustrated design allows a client to take steps to protect and adjust coverage before the life insurance policy’s continued coverage becomes critical. There’s no worse result than having a life insurance policy lapse after years of premium payments but before the intended need.
